Jeffrey A. Lake was born in Orange, California in 1966.
He lived in Southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area until he moved
to Paris, France and attended the American School of Paris in 1983 and
1984. Mr. Lake received his Bachelor of
Arts from the University of San Diego in 1988 with a major in International
Relations and a minor in Business Administration. He earned his Juris
Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California in 1991
and began practicing law as a civil litigation attorney in the spring of 1992.
Before founding Jeffrey A. Lake,
A.P.C. in 2001, Mr. Lake was the founder and managing partner of Lake &
Mougin, LLP, a full-service civil litigation law firm specializing in business,
real estate, and construction defect litigation. As a litigator, Mr. Lake
has represented clients in a diverse range of cases arising from products
liability and other tort actions, real property transactions, contract
disputes, business formation, election law, municipal law, medical marijuana
law, and criminal defense.
Mr. Lake is well known for
representing high-profile clients and taking politically charged,
policy-driven, and historic cases. In the past, Mr. Lake
has litigated such cases as Ceglia v. Zuckerberg, a multi-billion dollar contract dispute between Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg and Paul Ceglia, Pappas v.
Farr, a voter fraud case involving ACORN and the interpretation and
application of the Help America Vote Act, and BT
Collective v. IP Holdings, LLC, a products liability case involving
defective irrigation tubing that was pulled from the market after the manufacturer learned it was destroying medical marijuana plants intended for
seriously ill medical patients. Currently, Mr. Lake is litigating other controversial cases such as Lowry v.
San Diego Police Department, a civil rights case involving a brutal attack
by a police dog on a young woman sleeping in her office and Desert Valley Patients Association v. City
of Rancho Mirage, a case involving the City’s violations of medical
marijuana patients’ due process and equal protection rights.
From
March 2007 through December 2008, Mr. Lake served as the Executive Director of
the San Diego Chapter of the largest pro-business political action committee in
California, known as The New Majority. Mr. Lake's duties included
managing day-to-day operations, membership development and retention, and
serving as the liaison between The New Majority, candidates, elected and
appointed officials, and other similar organizations and coalitions. Mr.
Lake also developed and implemented strategic communications and governmental
affairs strategies for The New Majority.
Mr.
Lake is affiliated with the American Bar Association,the
California Bar, the San Diego County Bar Association, various district and appellate federal courts, American Trial Lawyers Association, and the San Diego
Association of Realtors. Mr. Lake was
also an editor and staff writer for San Diego Lawyer Magazine from 1999
until 2002 and author of the novel Through Broken Glass, which was
published in 2003.
Mr.
Lake has received numerous awards including: United States Congress Certificate
of Special Congressional Recognition, California State Senate Certificate of
Recognition, Certificate of Appreciation from the County of San Diego, and a
Special Commendation from the City of San Diego. He is also a Paul Harris
Fellow as awarded by Rotary International.
